5 Things I Wish I knew Before Shopping for My Wedding Dress

The time has come for you to look for your wedding dress. But where do you begin?

This is no doubt a special occasion, and you want to get it right. By going into it prepared you can go all in and enjoy the experience without worry.

Here’s everything I wish I knew before shopping for a wedding dress.

1. Get to know your local bridal boutiques

If you’ve already created a folder with your favorite dress styles and designers, now’s the time to start researching local bridal boutiques to see who they carry and if they have what you like.

You can do this easily by browsing their website, social media accounts, or past brides to see if the vibes match yours. If you’re feeling it- call and book your first appointment!

2. Who should really come with you to your appointment?

Try not to think of your appointment as a party with an entire entourage, because too many opinions can turn your appointment into a frustrating experience.

At Love, we recommend selecting 2-4 loved ones whose opinions REALLY matter to you.

That doesn’t mean you have to leave everyone out. Bring your crew with you to pick up the dress or just save your dress as a surprise on your wedding day!

3. It doesn't have to be hard!

Most brides fall in love with a dress at their first appointment and don't need to shop more, but do because they anticipated it being complicated.

Give yourself permission to say yes when you get that feeling. And don’t forget to go into it with an open mind- you’ve got an expert team of bridal consultants ready to help you!

4. Allow enough time to shop for your dress

This is crucial because you don’t want to feel rushed. After you choose your dress there are still fittings and alterations to anticipate.

At Love, we recommend starting to shop at least 8-12 months in advance to nix the stress.

5. Save time and money by attending a trunk show

If you’re in love with a particular designer, trunk shows provide a unique experience to score a great deal on a dress and get access to unique styles you normally wouldn’t see showcased in the boutique.

Keep in mind that trunk shows are held for a limited time, so sign up for updates from your local boutique that carries the designer or call them up and ask if they have any upcoming trunk shows you can attend.
